Same Hell, Different Show

Helluva Boss shares a universe with Hazbin Hotel but runs on completely different energy. Where Hazbin is a redemption drama wrapped in musical theater, Helluva Boss is a workplace dark comedy about a team of assassins-for-hire who are barely holding it together. The humor is crass, the violence is casual, and the emotional gut-punches sneak up on you between dick jokes.

That tonal balance matters for OC design. A Helluva Boss character needs to be funny and broken. Competent and messy. They exist in a world where a demon can brutally murder a human target in one scene and have a panic attack about their love life in the next.

Hell's Class System: Who You're Born As

Unlike Hazbin Hotel, where most characters are dead humans turned Sinners, Helluva Boss focuses almost entirely on Hellborn demons — creatures born in Hell who were never human. This changes the design philosophy completely. These characters don't carry human baggage. They carry Hell baggage.

Imps — The working class of Hell. Short (3-4 feet typically), red-skinned, white hair, black-and-white striped horns, pointed tails, yellow sclera with red irises. Imps are everywhere in Hell, doing the jobs nobody else wants.

Imp design variations to make your OC distinct:

  • Horn shape and size (curled, straight, asymmetrical, broken)
  • Tail thickness and tip shape (pointed, forked, club-ended)
  • Skin shade (ranges from bright red to dark crimson to pinkish)
  • White hair styling (the defining imp trait — how they wear it says everything)
  • Facial markings (white patches around eyes, cheek marks, forehead shapes)
  • Body type (Moxxie is wiry, Millie is athletic, Blitzo is lanky — imps vary)

Hellhounds — Larger, wolf-like demons. Loona is the primary canon example: grey fur, red eyes, canine features, slightly taller than imps, and thoroughly unimpressed by everything. Hellhounds are often employed as trackers or muscle.

Hellhound design space:

  • Fur color and pattern (not just grey — canon implies variety)
  • Ear shape and position (pointed, floppy, torn)
  • Tail style (bushy, short, docked)
  • Eye color (Loona's red is signature, but other hellhounds could vary)
  • Human-passing glamour form (Loona's human disguise is goth girl — your OC's glamour reflects their self-image)

Succubi and Incubi — The demons of lust, centered around Ozzie's entertainment empire. Canonically attractive by design, but "attractive" in Hell means exaggerated, dangerous-looking, and dripping with infernal charisma.

The Seven Rings and Their Rulers

Helluva Boss expands the geography of Hell far beyond Hazbin's Pride Ring. Each ring is ruled by a Sin Prince (one of the Seven Deadly Sins) and has its own culture, aesthetic, and population.

RingSinRulerVisual AestheticSocial Vibe
PridePrideLuciferArt deco, neon, Pentagram CityChaotic, status-obsessed, Sinners + everyone
WrathWrathSatanWar-torn, militaristic, volcanicAggressive, honor-based, constant conflict
GreedGreedMammonGarish, tacky-luxe, commercialExploitative, brand-obsessed, hustle culture

SlothSlothBelphegorDim, quiet, dreamlikeUnderdeveloped in canon — creative freedom
EnvyEnvyLeviathanSurveillance, competitive displaysUnderdeveloped in canon — creative freedom

Your OC's home ring shapes their entire worldview. An imp from the Wrath Ring fights like a soldier. An imp from the Greed Ring hustles like a salesman. A hellhound from the Lust Ring has a very different vibe than one from the Wrath Ring.

The Seven Deadly Sins Princes: Visual Motifs

The Sin Princes shown in the series each have a visual language so distinct it practically demands fan OCs in their court.

Stolas (Goetia demon, not a Sin Prince, but crucial) — Owl motif, royal blues and reds, Victorian aristocratic fashion, four glowing red eyes, tall and thin. Stolas represents the Goetia royal families — old money, occult power, dysfunctional marriages.

Asmodeus (Ozzie) — Massive, theatrical, club-owner energy. Heart motifs everywhere, deep purples and pinks, multiple eyes, booming presence. His domain is entertainment and desire.

Mammon — Tacky mogul. Gold everything, but cheap-looking gold. Clown/circus aesthetics (he runs a talent show empire). Exploitative and shallow. Designing an OC in Mammon's orbit means designing someone caught in a grift.

Beelzebub — Bright, sweet, party-host energy despite being a gluttony demon. Candy colors, insect motifs (fly/bee), warm and welcoming facade.

Each Prince's court would have servants, entertainers, guards, and operatives whose designs echo the Prince's motifs while remaining individually distinct.

I.M.P. Style: Workplace Character Design

If your OC works at (or interacts with) the Immediate Murder Professionals, their design needs to reflect the show's workplace comedy DNA.

The I.M.P. team roles:

  • The Boss (Blitzo) — Overconfident, emotionally stunted, actually cares too much. Loud outfit, dramatic accessories, trying too hard.
  • The Competent One (Moxxie) — Anxious, skilled, constantly disrespected. Neat appearance, visible stress, weapons expertise.
  • The Muscle (Millie) — Cheerful violence. Simple, practical outfit. Scariest person in the room and the happiest about it.
  • The Receptionist (Loona) — Doesn't want to be here. Goth aesthetic, headphones, phone constantly in hand.

An OC joining this dynamic needs a clear role: are they the new hire who's too normal for this job? The rival company employee? The client who keeps coming back? The old coworker from before I.M.P. existed?

Loo Loo Land and Ozzie's: Entertainment Aesthetics

Two of the most visually rich locations in Helluva Boss are entertainment venues, and both are goldmines for OC concepts.

Loo Loo Land — Mammon's budget theme park. Think knockoff Disneyland run by demons. Creepy mascot costumes, broken rides, sticky surfaces, underpaid imp employees in humiliating uniforms. An OC who works here is either dead inside, scheming to get out, or genuinely loves it in a deeply concerning way.

Design cues: mascot costume elements worn casually, Loo Loo Land employee badge, forced smile, theme park color palette (bright primaries, slightly faded).

Ozzie's — Asmodeus's high-end club in the Lust Ring. Upscale, sensual, neon-pink everything. Live performances, VIP sections, bouncers with attitude. An OC connected to Ozzie's could be a performer, a regular, a bouncer, or someone who got banned.

Design cues: club attire, pink/purple lighting reflected in design, performance-ready accessories, confidence in body language.

Prompt Strategy for Helluva Boss OCs

The Vivziepop style applies here as it does in Hazbin, but Helluva Boss characters tend to be slightly more grounded in their proportions (imps are compact and proportional, not stretched like Alastor).

Essential prompt elements:

  • Species-specific features (imp horns/tail/white hair, hellhound fur/ears)
  • Ring-appropriate color palette
  • Workplace or lifestyle context in the outfit
  • Vivziepop's sharp angular style with expressive faces
  • Attitude in the pose — Helluva Boss characters are never neutral

"A female imp with curled black horns, short spiky white hair with red tips, yellow eyes, wearing a torn leather jacket over an I.M.P. company shirt, arms crossed, smirking, Helluva Boss art style, sharp angular features, Hell cityscape background"

Frequently Asked Questions

Can my OC be a Goetia demon like Stolas? Yes. The Goetia are established as a royal demon family with many members. Your OC would be Hellborn nobility — powerful, old-fashioned, probably in an unhappy arranged marriage, and almost certainly hiding something. Design them with an animal motif (Stolas is an owl, Andrealphus is a peacock) drawn from the real Ars Goetia grimoire.

Does my OC need to be connected to I.M.P.? Not at all. The show has expanded well beyond the workplace premise. Your OC could be from any ring, any social class, any profession. The rings and Sin Prince courts offer more design space than I.M.P. itself.

How do I differentiate my imp OC from the main cast? Horn shape, tail design, hair style, body type, and fashion sense. All imps share the basic template (red skin, white hair, yellow eyes), but within those constraints, there's enormous variety. Look at background imps in the show — they're all visually distinct.

Can my OC travel between rings? Hellborn demons can travel between rings, though some rings have restrictions or require connections to enter (Ozzie's in the Lust Ring isn't open to just anyone). Sinners are stuck in the Pride Ring unless they have special means (like Stolas's grimoire).

What makes a good Helluva Boss OC vs. a Hazbin Hotel OC? Helluva Boss OCs should feel like people with jobs, relationship problems, and daily inconveniences — who also happen to be demons. Hazbin OCs carry the weight of damnation and potential redemption. The emotional register is fundamentally different.
