This jujutsu kaisen oc maker guide starts with the power system, because JJK rewards creativity over raw strength. Gojo is the strongest because Limitless is fundamentally broken at a mathematical level. Sukuna dominates because his technique has no conceptual counter. Todo wins fights by clapping his hands at the right moment. The gap between a weak technique and a strong one isn't volume — it's cleverness.
This jjk oc maker workshop teaches you to design a Cursed Technique the way Gege Akutami does — and even build a cursed technique generator workflow: start with one rule, then find every way to exploit it.
Before building a technique, understand the fuel. Cursed Energy is generated from negative emotions — fear, anger, grief, hatred. Every human leaks it. Sorcerers learn to cycle it through their body and channel it into techniques.
Key mechanics your OC must respect:
| Grade | What It Means | Threat Calibration |
|---|---|---|
| Grade 4 | Student level, barely controls cursed energy | Can handle weak cursed spirits with support |
| Grade 3 | Functional sorcerer, one working technique | Solo missions against low-grade curses |
| Grade 2 | Experienced, efficient cursed energy use | Handles mid-level threats independently |
| Grade 1 | Elite. Trusted with high-stakes missions | Can fight semi-grade 1 cursed spirits solo |
| Special Grade 1 | Grade 1 recognized by specific higher-ups | Nomination-based, not power-based |
| Special Grade | Off the charts. World-altering threat level | Gojo, Yuta, Geto, Sukuna territory |
Most well-designed OCs sit between Grade 2 and Grade 1. Special Grade should be reserved for characters whose technique fundamentally breaks the rules of engagement — not just characters who are "really strong."

Gege builds techniques using a consistent pattern. Reverse-engineer it for your OC.
Step 1 — Pick one concept. Not a power. A concept. Infinity. Idle transfiguration. Projection. Cleavage and dismantle. Ratio.
Step 2 — Define the rule. What does the concept do when cursed energy fuels it? Limitless manipulates space at the atomic level. Idle Transfiguration reshapes souls. Projection Sorcery forces anything touched to follow 24-frames-per-second movement.
Step 3 — Find the applications. One rule, multiple uses:
Step 4 — Identify the weakness. Every canon technique has at least one:
The acid test: If you can't explain your OC's technique in one sentence and immediately identify how an intelligent opponent would counter it, the design isn't finished.
A Domain Expansion is a sorcerer's inner world made manifest — a pocket dimension where their technique becomes inescapable. It's the single most visually striking element of a JJK character.
What a Domain requires:
Domain naming conventions from canon:
| Domain | Sorcerer | Kanji Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| Unlimited Void | Gojo | 無量空処 — Immeasurable Void |
| Malevolent Shrine | Sukuna | 伏魔御廚子 — Hidden Demon Kitchen |
| Chimera Shadow Garden | Megumi | 嵌合暗翳庭 — Interlocking Shadow Garden |
| Self-Embodiment of Perfection | Hanami | Not given — nature/floral paradise |
| Coffin of the Iron Mountain | Jogo | 蓋棺鉄囲山 — Iron Coffin Mountain |
Notice the pattern: the domain name compresses the technique's philosophy into dense imagery. "Unlimited Void" captures both Infinity (unlimited) and the sensory overload (void). Design your domain name to do the same.

Binding Vows are self-imposed contracts that trade one thing for another. They're the JJK equivalent of Nen's Vows and Limitations, but with a more legalistic flavor.
Types of Binding Vows:
Revealing one's hand — Telling your opponent exactly how your technique works. In exchange, the technique becomes significantly more powerful. Todo explains Boogie Woogie freely because the knowledge doesn't help — you still can't stop it. Your OC might do this if their technique is mechanically simple but strategically complex.
Technique restriction — Limiting when or how the technique can activate. Nanami's Overtime Binding Vow restricts his power during work hours but dramatically amplifies it after 6 PM. Design a restriction that creates interesting tactical situations, not just "I'm stronger on Tuesdays."
Life-stake vows — Betting your life or body on a condition. The most powerful vows. If your OC has one, the consequence of breaking it should be death or permanent loss. Anything less and the vow doesn't generate enough power to justify itself.
Two alternative paths for OC abilities:
Cursed Objects — Your OC might be a vessel for a cursed object, like Yuji with Sukuna's fingers. This splits the character into host and parasite, creating internal conflict. The host's body adapts to the object's power over time, often gaining physical changes (markings, altered eyes, increased muscle mass).
Inherited Techniques — Clan-based abilities passed through blood. The Zenin clan's Ten Shadows, the Gojo clan's Limitless. If your OC belongs to a sorcerer clan, their technique should have a family legacy — previous users who wielded it differently, clan expectations about how it's used, and the pressure of comparison.
Your OC exists within (or deliberately outside) the jujutsu institution. This shapes their daily life and relationships.
Tokyo Jujutsu High — The main school. First and second year students, supervised missions, semi-formal training. Characters here tend toward youthful energy even when dealing with horror-level threats.
Kyoto Jujutsu High — The rival school. More traditional, more politically entangled with the conservative higher-ups. Good for OCs who chafe against authority.
Independent sorcerers — Not affiliated with either school. Rarer, more dangerous, less supported. Good for older OCs or those with techniques the institution would find threatening.
Curse users — Sorcerers who use their power for personal gain. Villains, mercenaries, or morally gray operators. Their techniques tend toward the cruel and the exploitative.
JJK's visual identity combines modern streetwear with supernatural horror. The contrast is the point — Gojo wears a blindfold and designer clothes while manipulating infinity.
"A jujutsu sorcerer in a [modified school uniform or dark tactical outfit], [age and build], [cursed energy visual — dark purple/blue aura, crackling, swirling], [signature technique manifestation], [emotional expression that matches their technique's nature], urban Japan background with subtle supernatural distortion"
Can my OC have a Domain Expansion at Grade 2? Technically no. Domain Expansion is the pinnacle of jujutsu — most Grade 1 sorcerers can't do it. However, an incomplete domain (like Megumi's early attempts) is fair game for a talented but not yet elite character.
How do I avoid making an overpowered technique? Apply the one-sentence test. If explaining your technique requires "and also" more than twice, it's doing too much. The best JJK techniques are simple rules with complex applications.
Should my OC be connected to an existing clan? It's optional. The Big Three clans (Gojo, Zenin, Kamo) have established lore you'd need to navigate. Original families give you more freedom but require more worldbuilding.
Can my OC be a cursed spirit instead of a sorcerer? Absolutely. Cursed spirits born from collective human fear (disaster curses like Jogo, Hanami, Mahito) are some of the most compelling characters in the series. Their technique should reflect the specific fear that birthed them.
