This dragon ball oc maker starts with a single choice that determines everything: what race is your character? Unlike most anime, where power systems are universal, Dragon Ball ties abilities, transformations, and power ceilings directly to biology. A Saiyan and a Namekian don't just fight differently — they exist on fundamentally different power curves. A saiyan oc creator path looks nothing like a Namekian one.
This guide is structured as a comparative race breakdown. Each section covers a race's strengths, transformation tiers, design conventions, and the narrative flavors they enable.
| Race | Peak Ceiling | Transformation? | Ki Specialty | Visual Identity |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Saiyan | Virtually unlimited | Yes — multiple tiers | Versatile, explosive | Spiky hair, athletic build, tail (if intact) |
| Namekian | High, capped below Saiyan peak | Fusion, Giant Form | Regenerative, beam-focused | Green skin, antennae, pointed ears, no hair |
| Frieza Race | Extremely high (suppression forms) | Yes — reverse transformations (unlocking power) | Dense, destructive | Purple/white coloring, bio-armor, tail, horns |
| Android/Cyborg | Fixed at creation (infinite energy models) | No traditional forms | Energy absorption or infinite reserves | Mechanical parts, visible modifications |
| Human | Lowest ceiling, highest skill expression | No | Technique-focused, precise | Normal human appearance, defined by technique |
| Majin | High, regeneration-dominant | Absorption (gains victim's power/appearance) | Elastic, shape-shifting | Pink skin, head tentacle, round build |
Let's be honest: most Dragon Ball OCs are Saiyans. The transformation system is the franchise's biggest draw, and Saiyans have the most tiers to play with. The challenge is making your Saiyan distinct from the hundreds of existing Saiyan OCs.
Saiyan Transformation Tier Table:
| Form | Multiplier (approx.) | Visual Change | Unlocking Condition | Design Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Great Ape (Oozaru) | 10x base | Giant ape, requires tail + full moon | Innate (with tail) | Mostly relevant for lore/backstory |
| Super Saiyan | 50x base | Golden hair, green eyes, golden aura | Emotional trigger (rage/loss) | The iconic baseline |
| Super Saiyan 2 | 100x base | Sharper golden hair, lightning sparks | Intense emotional breakthrough | More angular, more electric |
| Super Saiyan 3 | 400x base | Floor-length hair, no eyebrows, massive aura | Extreme power strain | Drains energy rapidly — time-limited |
| Super Saiyan God | Godly ki realm | Red hair, slimmer build, calm aura | Ritual (5 righteous Saiyans) or divine training | Sleeker, more serene than SS forms |
| Super Saiyan Blue | God + SS combined | Blue hair, denser blue aura | Mastery of godly ki + SS | Intense but controlled energy |
| Ultra Instinct (Sign/Mastered) | Beyond measurement | Silver eyes/hair, ethereal aura | Body moves without conscious thought | Extremely rare — arguably not a "Saiyan" form |
| Ultra Ego | Beyond measurement | Purple-highlighted, aggressive aura | Destruction god mindset | Opposite philosophy to Ultra Instinct |
The trap: Giving your OC every transformation up to Ultra Instinct. In canon, reaching Super Saiyan took Goku decades. SS3 nearly killed him. God forms required divine intervention. Pick a ceiling for your OC and commit to it. A Super Saiyan 2 character who's mastered that form is more interesting than one who casually stacks five transformations.
What makes a Saiyan OC stand out:

Namekians offer something no other race does: fusion as a power system. Two Namekians can permanently merge, combining their power and knowledge. This means a Namekian OC's power scaling is about relationships — who are they willing to merge with, and what do they lose in the process?
Namekian design variables:
The Frieza race works backwards from every other Dragon Ball race. They don't transform to gain power — they suppress their power behind restrictive forms and release it.
Frieza Race Form Progression:
| Form | What's Happening | Design |
|---|---|---|
| First Form | Maximum suppression, smallest size | Short, horned, compact |
| Second Form | Partial release, growing larger | Taller, heavier, more menacing |
| Third Form | Further release, body elongating | Alien, elongated skull, more organic horror |
| Final Form | True form, all suppression removed | Sleek, streamlined, deceptively small |
| Golden Form | Maximum output, trained beyond natural limits | Gold bio-armor, immense aura |
| Black Frieza | Transcendent (Frieza-exclusive so far) | Black/dark coloring |
This inverted progression means a Frieza Race OC gets sleeker as they get stronger. Design the final form first, then build the suppressed forms as increasingly bulky disguises over that core.
Androids in Dragon Ball come in three flavors:
Fully mechanical (Android 16, 19) — Robots. No ki signature, infinite energy models. Their power is fixed at creation and doesn't grow. Design them with visible mechanical elements and a specific combat purpose.
Cyborg (Android 17, 18) — Enhanced humans. Infinite energy reactor, but a human base. They can train and grow beyond their modifications. Visually, they look human with subtle tells (maybe a visible power port, mechanical joints, or artificial eyes).
Bio-Android (Cell) — Organic constructs with DNA from multiple warriors. These are the most creative option — you can justify almost any combination of abilities if the bio-engineering backstory supports it.

Every Dragon Ball fighter has signature ki attacks. Design yours with these components:
Charge method: How is the energy gathered? Goku cups his hands (Kamehameha). Vegeta extends one palm (Big Bang Attack). Frieza raises a finger (Death Beam). The pose is iconic.
Delivery: Beam, ball, wave, barrage, or weapon construct? Each has tactical implications. Beams are powerful but committed. Barrages cover area but lack focus. Constructs (ki swords, discs) are precise but require concentration.
Naming convention: Dragon Ball attack names are gloriously dramatic. Special Beam Cannon. Final Flash. Spirit Bomb. Destructo Disc. Death Ball. Two-word combinations of violent verbs and cosmic nouns. Go big.
The signature rule: One signature technique per character. Goku has the Kamehameha. Vegeta has the Final Flash. Krillin has the Destructo Disc. Your OC gets one — make it count. They can know other techniques, but one defines them.
Dragon Ball has two fusion methods, and each creates a distinct OC design challenge:
Fusion Dance — Requires equal power levels and perfect synchronization. Produces a being with a distinctive vest outfit and combined hairstyle. Lasts 30 minutes. Good for OCs who are actually two characters that become one.
Potara Earrings — No power requirement, permanent for gods (temporary for mortals at ~1 hour). Produces a being with more individualized design. Good for "what if" OC concepts.
"A [race] warrior from [Universe 7/6/other], [transformation state if applicable], [build and height], wearing [Saiyan armor / Namekian gi / alien bio-armor / human martial arts outfit], [ki technique charging — describe the pose and energy color], [background — planet surface, tournament arena, wasteland], Dragon Ball anime art style, dynamic power aura"
How do I power scale my OC without making them absurd? Anchor them to a canon reference point. "Around Android Saga Vegeta level" is more useful than a made-up power number. Dragon Ball's power levels stopped being tracked for a reason — they escalate too fast to mean anything.
Can my OC be a Saiyan-Namekian hybrid? There's no canon precedent for cross-species hybrids outside Saiyan-Human. You can create one, but acknowledge it's non-canon and explain the biology.
Is it okay to make a human OC in Dragon Ball? Absolutely. Krillin, Tien, and Yamcha are humans in a world of aliens and gods. Humans in Dragon Ball compensate with technique mastery — Krillin's Destructo Disc can cut anything regardless of power level. A human OC built around one perfected technique is perfectly viable.
Should my OC be from Universe 7 or another universe? Universe 7 has the most established lore. Universe 6 offers Saiyan variants without tails. Other universes are mostly blank slates — good for creative freedom but less grounded.
