Player Profile Card Creation Guide

Blue Lock isn't about teamwork. It's about ego — the ruthless, singular conviction that YOU are the best striker on the planet. Every character in the series is built around one concept: their weapon, the unique skill or instinct that makes them irreplaceable on the field.

Your OC needs that weapon. Not a vague "they're fast" or "they can shoot well." A specific, nameable edge that no other player can replicate. This guide walks you through building a complete Blue Lock player profile from ego outward.

Step 1: Define the Ego

In Blue Lock, "ego" isn't arrogance — it's clarity of self. Every elite striker has an unshakeable belief about what they are.

Isagi's ego: "I will devour everything to evolve." Bachira's ego: "Football is a monster inside me that wants to play." Rin's ego: "I will destroy anyone in my way, even family." Nagi's ego: "If I have to try, it's not worth doing — unless it is."

Write your OC's ego as a single declaration. Not a goal ("I want to be the best") — a statement of identity.

Ego archetypes in Blue Lock:

  • The Predator — sees the field as a hunting ground. Reacts to weakness instinctively. (Shidou)
  • The Analyst — deconstructs football into data. Evolves by absorbing others' techniques. (Isagi)
  • The Artist — plays for beauty. The goal isn't the point; the way they score is. (Bachira, Kunigami pre-Wild Card)
  • The Machine — relentless physical output. Outworks everyone. No flash, just results. (Chigiri before his knee storyline inversion)
  • The Wildcard — unpredictable, chaotic, operates on instinct over logic. (Barou)

Step 2: Design the Weapon

The weapon is the mechanical expression of the ego. It's the one thing your OC does better than anyone alive.

Weapon categories from canon:

Weapon TypeDescriptionCanon Example
Spatial AwarenessReads the entire field like a chessboardIsagi's "Direct Shot" meta-vision
Physical FreakOne physical attribute pushed to inhuman levelsChigiri's explosive speed, Aryu's aerial dominance
Technical GeniusA specific technique mastered beyond anyone elseKunigami's left foot cannon, Nagi's trapping
Chemical ReactionCreates something new when paired with specific playersBachira's dribble synergy, Isagi's off-ball evolution
Instinct OverrideBypasses thinking entirely in critical momentsShidou's unpredictable finishing, Rin's direct shooting

Your OC's weapon should be describable in three words or fewer. "Blind-spot threading." "Contact dribble override." "Delayed acceleration." If you can't condense it, it's not focused enough.

Step 3: Physical Profile

Blue Lock characters have exaggerated but specific physical builds that visually communicate their playstyle.

Build-to-playstyle mapping:

  • Lean and explosive (Chigiri, Rin): Speed-based strikers. Long legs, low center of gravity. Hair often flows dramatically to emphasize motion.
  • Compact and dense (Isagi, Bachira): Agility players. Average height, quick directional changes. Expressive faces and eyes.
  • Tall and angular (Aryu, Shidou): Aerial and finishing specialists. Long reach, dramatic poses. Often drawn with sharper facial features.
  • Stocky and powerful (Barou, Kunigami): Physical shooters. Broader shoulders, heavier stance. Drawn with more shadow and muscle definition.

Hair matters in Blue Lock. Muneyuki Kaneshiro and Yusuke Nomura use hair as a visual weapon indicator — Chigiri's flowing hair signals speed, Barou's wild mane signals chaos, Isagi's ordinary hair signals that his weapon is internal, not physical.

Step 4: The Flow State

Flow state is Blue Lock's version of a power-up. When a player enters flow, they transcend normal play — time perception shifts, decision-making becomes instantaneous, the "zone" activates.

Design your OC's flow state by answering:

  1. What triggers it? Desperation? Rivalry? A specific game situation?
  2. What changes visually? In the manga, flow states are drawn with altered eye designs, aura effects, panel distortion.
  3. What changes mechanically? Their weapon amplifies — but how specifically?
  4. What's the cost? Flow states in Blue Lock are exhausting. Characters can't sustain them indefinitely. Some crash hard after.

Step 5: Rivalry Dynamics

No Blue Lock character exists in isolation. The series runs on rivalries — and your OC needs at least one.

Rivalry types:

  • Mirror match: Your OC vs. someone with a similar weapon but different ego. They force each other to evolve past the shared skill into something unique.
  • Counter match: Your OC's weapon is specifically neutralized by this rival's. Every encounter demands adaptation.
  • Aspiration match: Your OC is chasing someone strictly better. The gap is the story.
  • Philosophy clash: Both are equally skilled, but their fundamental approach to football is incompatible. Barou vs. Isagi is this — instinct vs. analysis.

Prompt Tips for AI Generation

Blue Lock's art style is hyper-expressive — intense eyes, dynamic poses, speed lines, and dramatic lighting even in still moments.

"A 17-year-old striker with swept-back dark hair and sharp amber eyes, wearing a Blue Lock uniform (#187), mid-sprint with one arm back, intense focused expression, speed lines radiating from legs, stadium background with dramatic overhead lighting — manga style, dynamic action pose"

Include the uniform number, eye expression (crucial in Blue Lock — eyes communicate weapon activation), and motion lines. Static poses work against the series' visual identity.

Common Design Pitfalls

"My OC can do everything." Blue Lock's entire philosophy rejects generalists. Noel Noa is the world's best striker specifically because he perfected the most basic skills to inhuman levels, not because he has every trick. Your OC needs a gap.

"My OC is rank #1." Placing your OC at the absolute top removes all narrative tension. Rankings between 50-200 give room for growth, rivalry, and the threat of elimination.

"My OC has no ego." Then they wouldn't survive the first selection. Blue Lock explicitly eliminates players who can't articulate what makes them special. Humility is fine in real football — in Blue Lock, it's a death sentence.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can my OC be a goalkeeper or defender? Blue Lock is specifically a striker program, but the series has expanded to include positions that support strikers. A defensive midfielder who enables strikers could work if their ego is framed around control, not protection.

How does my OC's weapon evolve? Through chemical reactions with other players and survival pressure. Isagi's weapon evolved from basic spatial awareness to meta-vision to direct shot across multiple selection rounds. Plan 2-3 evolution stages for your weapon.

What if my OC's weapon overlaps with a canon character's? Differentiate through the ego. Two players can both be speed specialists, but if one runs to escape and the other runs to hunt, they're fundamentally different characters.
